Downtown Mural Completed
New 'Rooted in the Prairie' artwork honors native plants and Dakota culture

The mural titled "Rooted in the Prairie" is now complete in the downtown area. The artwork celebrates the ecological importance of Minnesota’s native prairie and recognizes the cultural connections between these plants and the Dakota people. The design features various plants, such as purple coneflower and milkweed, which support local pollinators and wildlife. Hannah Anema Art designed and painted the mural with assistance from Misty Redsky King. The wall for the project was provided by Maisie Hagert, owner of Blush & Bliss Med Spa, with grant funding from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council. Additional help came from community volunteers who participated in the Paint the Park event. Future plans for the pocket park include adding landscaping and an interpretive sign to explain the featured plants. Visitors can also visit the project website to hear plant names spoken in the Dakota language, a feature narrated by Ella O’Keefe. Residents are encouraged to visit the site to learn more at https://www.discoverdowntownrwf.com/rooted-in-the-prairie.
