Lucan's Former School Continues Serving as a Community Center

The town's history shows how a familiar public building found a new purpose

A building that once welcomed students is now a community gathering place in Lucan. According to the city's history, School District 108 began with 48 students and one teacher in 1904.

The school property was declared surplus in 1981 and sold to the Lucan Lions Club. After it was donated to the city and renovated, the building became the Lucan Community Center. The transition is an example of how a smaller community can adapt an existing building for new purposes.

Lucan's website also highlights continuing community traditions, including the St. Patrick's parade and program, Booster Club Golf Day and Pretzel Days. These events depend on local organizations and volunteers.

The community center and annual celebrations provide different ways for residents to stay connected across generations.

Minnesota Riverlands follows the City of Lucan's official information to make its community history, resources and events more visible.
