Minnesota Opens $10.9 Million CanRenew Community Restoration Grants

Qualifying organizations can apply through December 15 for projects supporting communities affected by past cannabis-law enforcement.

Minnesota's Office of Cannabis Management opened applications October 22 for $10.9 million in CanRenew grants supporting communities disproportionately affected by past enforcement of cannabis laws. Applications are due December 15, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Central.

For nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, federally recognized Tribes, local governments, community groups and other eligible applicants connected to Redwood County, the program may be worth reviewing. Projects must meet the state's eligibility rules and demonstrate community need, support and potential impact. A Redwood County location alone does not establish eligibility.

The program supports work such as community and economic development, youth engagement, violence prevention and efforts addressing factors that affect health and well-being. The agency expects to award between 15 and 50 grants, ranging from $50,000 to $2 million, for the fiscal 2027–2028 cycle.

Importantly, CanRenew money is not for operating cannabis businesses or for projects that generate revenue. Applicants should review the official program guidance and eligibility criteria before preparing a proposal.
