Minnesota Veteran Receives Diploma Under New State Law
Eligible veterans and families in our region can ask local school districts about the program.

A Minnesota veteran who left high school before graduating has received a diploma under a state law that took effect August 1, 2026. KNSI reported October 29 that a former St. Cloud Tech High School student was the first recipient under the provision, which honors certain veterans whose education was interrupted by military service. The family requested privacy.
Under the law, eligible Korean Conflict and Vietnam War veterans who did not complete high school can request a diploma from a school district or charter school. Family members may also make requests on a veteran's behalf.
Why it matters in our region: Veterans and their families may not know this recognition is available. A local school district or county veterans service office can help explain the process and supporting documents.
