State auditor recommends improved county procedures

The state auditor has taken a look at our county’s financial statements and recommended that we start using better procedures to document internal controls. I know, it sounds like a lot of dry paperwork, but it is actually quite important. These controls are what keep our taxpayer dollars safe from errors or any kind of misuse. I heard that the county is planning to address the staffing gaps by consolidating some of their accounting duties. It is the sort of task that keeps the books clean and orderly. It is good to know that the county is taking the state’s advice and working to make these processes as solid as they can be. We all want to make sure our local government is running as smoothly as possible.
